Two decades on site
Behind Complete Builders sits roughly two decades of hands-on construction experience — extensions, conversions, structural alterations and renovation work on the kind of properties you find across Herefordshire, Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire.
That matters more than it sounds. Older stone and brick homes, timber-framed cottages, converted farm buildings and 1930s semis all behave differently once you start opening them up. Knowing what you're likely to find behind a wall before you knock it down is the difference between a project that runs to programme and one that stalls.
What we build
Extensions and conversions are what we do most of. Every job is run the same way: one point of contact, a written scope, and a programme you can hold us to.

Single and double-storey, rear, side and wraparound extensions — including kitchen and garage extensions. The most common way to get the space you need without moving.
House details
Dormer, hip-to-gable, Velux and L-shaped conversions. Usually the cheapest square metre you can add to a house, and often possible under permitted development.
Loft details
Turning an under-used garage into a proper room — office, snug, utility or bedroom — with the insulation, floor build-up and damp detailing done properly.
Garage details
Removing walls, installing steels, opening up ground floors, reconfiguring layouts and full property renovations, including older Herefordshire, Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire homes.
Renovations detailsInsulated garden offices, studios and self-contained annexes for family who need their own space, built to be used all year round.

A vague quote. No contract. Money paid up front. Then the price creeps, the dates slip, and nobody will give you a straight answer.
Every one of those problems is preventable, and none of the fixes are complicated. They just have to be agreed before the work starts rather than argued about halfway through.
The price. You get an itemised written quotation setting out what is and isn't included. If something genuinely changes — ground conditions, a structural surprise, a change you ask for — it's priced and agreed in writing before we carry it out.
The money. Staged payments tied to completed stages of work. You never pay for work that hasn't happened.
The dates. A programme with a start date and a realistic finish, and updates when something moves.
The communication. One point of contact who knows your project, not a different number every week.
How it works
Tell us what you're thinking of doing. We'll be straight with you about whether it's realistic for the property and the budget you have in mind.
We come and look at the house — access, ground conditions, the existing structure, drainage, where the work actually has to happen. This is where most surprises get found.
Where drawings are needed we coordinate the architect and structural engineer, and handle the planning or permitted development route and the Building Regulations application.
An itemised quotation setting out the scope of works, what's included, what isn't, and the payment stages. You get it in writing before you commit to anything.
A written contract, a staged payment schedule and a programme with a realistic start and finish date.
One point of contact throughout. Regular updates, trades coordinated, the site left tidy at the end of each day.
Sign-off with Building Control where applicable, certificates handed over, snagging done, and your workmanship guarantee in writing.
Planning and Building Regulations
Plenty of homeowners stall at this stage — permitted development, planning applications, Building Regulations, party wall notices, structural calculations. It's the part of a project that feels opaque from the outside.
We'll tell you which route your project needs at the site visit, coordinate the architect and structural engineer where drawings and calculations are required, and deal with Building Control through to sign-off.
Herefordshire, Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire both have a lot of conservation area and listed building stock, and parts of the Wye Valley sit within a designated landscape. That changes what's possible — it's worth knowing early, not after you've paid for drawings.
Where we work
We're set up to cover these three counties properly rather than spreading thin across half the country. If you're outside these areas, ask anyway — we'll tell you honestly whether it's practical.
Common questions
It depends on size, ground conditions, the finish you want and how much structural work is involved — anyone quoting a figure without seeing the property is guessing. As a rough guide, single-storey extensions in this part of the country typically start around £2,000–£2,800 per square metre for a standard specification, before kitchens, bathrooms and landscaping. We give you an itemised written quotation after a free site visit. More on extension costs.
Many single-storey rear extensions and loft conversions fall under permitted development, but Herefordshire, Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire both have conservation areas, listed buildings and AONB land where the rules are tighter. We'll tell you which route your project needs and handle the application. Read the planning guide.
For most single-storey extensions and loft conversions, yes. There will be noisy weeks, and there may be a period without a kitchen or a bathroom depending on the job. We'll tell you honestly at the site visit what the disruption looks like and plan the sequence around it.
By what's in writing before anything starts: an itemised quotation setting out exactly what is and isn't included, a written contract, and staged payments tied to completed stages of work — so you never pay for work that hasn't been done. The work is fully insured, including public liability, and the workmanship guarantee is given in writing at handover. We're happy to talk any of it through before you commit to anything.
